Dr. Houwman says he feels a lot of pride being a part of the Williamsburg Dental team because he’s part of a cohesive group that strives to make the office a more comfortable environment for our patients. He feels right at home, as constant improvement is an essential part of his care philosophy as well. All the extra effort is worth it when a patient sees their new smile for the first time.
Junior year of college, Dr. Houwman couldn’t decide whether he wanted to go to medical or dental school. So, he decided to shadow both professions and see what a typical day looked like. The dentist was so great with his patients and comforting during what could easily have been a stressful day. Seeing his patients put their trust in him and his attitude towards the profession made him excited to get into the field himself.
Dr. Houwman is originally from South Dakota, where his parents and older sister still live. He met his wife, Erika, in dental school, where they got engaged before their third year and married the summer before their final year. Today, they have a black lab named Mango that is the light of their world who they spoil rotten. While he enjoys working out and trying new restaurants, his favorite hobby by far is golfing. In 2026, he actually got a hole-in-one while in Maui!
